SPECIAL RULES This Contest will be governed by the General Rules and Regulations of the Southwestern Exposition and Livestock Show, General Rules and Regulations for Competitions and Contests and, in addition, the following Special Rules. 1. ELIGIBILITY: a. Contestants must be bona fide 4-H or FFA members trained under the supervision of their respective Agricultural Science Teacher or County Extension Agent and enrolled in public or private schools in the State of Texas. 4-H contestants must reside in the county they are competing under, and FFA contestants must be listed on the active roster of their chapter. b. Each County Extension Agent or Agricultural Science Teacher may enter one (1) or more teams and any number of individuals in the Contest. All contestants must be nine (9) years old or in the third grade, but not older than nineteen (19) years old on January 1, 2027. c. Teams will consist of three (3) or four (4) members with the three (3) high scores constituting the team score. There will be no age divisions in either team or individual competitions. d. Entry applications may be obtained and submitted on our website fwssr.com. 2. CLASSES: a. Twenty (20) fleeces will be evaluated for fineness, length and yield. Each fleece will be worth ten (10) points, and contestants will be allowed one (1) minute per fleece. b. Six (6) classes of four (4) fleeces will be placed, consisting of commercial and breeding classes. c. Participants will be asked questions on six (6) classes. Contestants will be allowed fifteen (15) minutes to 3. CONTEST: a. Scores will be based on fleece evaluation, class placings and questions. A total of two hundred (200) points will be allotted to fleece evaluation, three hundred (300) points to placings and three hundred (300) points to questions. b. Any ties in the tabulation of team standings will be broken by the highest total score on fleece evaluation, followed by the highest questions score, and then the highest placings score. 4. RESULTS AND AWARDS: a. The Contest results, as announced, will be final. Contestants must be present to receive awards. Awards will not be mailed following the Show. b. Final results of the Contest will be made available and awards will be presented following the Contest. Awards will be presented to the appropriate teams and individuals following the contest. No duplicate awards will be given. c. Tiebreakers: - Overall: (1) fleece evaluation; (2) questions; (3) placing and questions place each class and answer the corresponding questions. d. The use of any measuring device will not be permitted.
