c. Scan Sheet: Each contestant will give the scan sheet bearing their placing to the group leader when called for. Each contestant will provide their own #2 pencil to mark placings. d. Oral Reasons: One (1) set of reasons shall be given on a halter class and two (2) sets of reasons on performance classes. The contestants shall be notified as soon as possible whether or not reasons will be required on the class being judged. Reasons shall be given orally before the judge or judges and, for this purpose, private rooms shall be provided. Notes may not be used when giving oral reasons. e. Final Standing: This shall be based both upon the placing and the oral reasons. Fifty (50) points shall constitute a perfect score in placing the animals, and fifty (50) points shall constitute a perfect score for oral reasons. In case of ties, contestants with the highest reasons scores in the class in which the division ties occur, will be declared the winner. If contestants are still tied after the reasons scores are used, then the lowest placing score with the highest reasons score will be used. If still tied, ties will be broken by the flip of a coin. f. Group Leader: A person shall be placed in charge of each class of horses to act as supervisor of that class, to observe the contestants, to see that the animals are properly shown and moved, and to answer any questions which do not pertain to the actual placing or instruction regarding the animals under consideration. g. Judges: Qualified judges familiar with horse judging contests will put official placings on the classes and listen to reasons.

The Southwestern Exposition and Livestock Show will be awarding a $4,000 scholarship to the High Point Youth Exhibitor, ages 14 to 18, and a $2,000 scholarship to the Reserve High Point Youth Exhibitor, ages 14 to 18 as of January 1, 2026.

JANUARY 19, 2026 $40,000 in Scholarships awarded in the Senior Division. Buckles and special awards presented in the Senior, Intermediate and Junior Divisions. Limited to the first 125 entries. Open to all students ages 8-18, as of January 1, 2026 (3 age divisions), currently enrolled and attending public, private or homeschool elementary or secondary schools in the state of Texas.
