SPECIAL RULES This Contest will be governed by the General Rules and Regulations of the Southwestern Exposition and Livestock Show, General Rules and Regulations for Judging Contests and, in addition, the following Special Rules. 1. ELIGIBILITY: a. Contestants must be bona fide 4-H or FFA members trained under the supervision of their respective Agricultural Science Teacher or County Extension Agent and enrolled in public or private schools in the State of Texas. 4-H contestants must reside in the county they are competing under, and FFA contestants must be listed on the active roster of their chapter. b. Each County Extension Agent or Agricultural Science Teacher may enter one (1) or more teams and any number of individuals in the Contest. All contestants must be nine (9) years old or in the third grade, but not older than nineteen (19) years old on January 1, 2025. c. Teams will consist of three (3) or four (4) members with the three (3) high scores constituting the team score. There will be no age divisions in either team or individual competitions. d. Entry applications may be obtained by contacting the Southwestern Exposition and Livestock Show, PO Box 150, Fort Worth, Texas 76101-0150, 817-877-2400, or on our website fwssr.com. 2. CLASSES: A minimum of six (6) classes will be judged. If available, they will consist of percentage Boer does, fullblood Boer does and wether goats. 3. CONTEST: a. Eight (8) minutes will be allowed for contestants to place each class. b. There will be three (3) questions classes. In each class with questions, five (5) questions will be asked and each will be worth five (5) points. Students will be provided sufficient time to study their notes prior to being asked questions. However, students may NOT refer to their notes while the questions are being asked. c. Contestants will provide their own #2 pencil to mark placings on scan sheets and will be responsible for turning in their scan sheets when called for by group leaders. d. A group leader will be placed in charge of each group of contestants to supervise them and to answer any questions that do not pertain to the actual placing or instructions regarding the animals under consideration. e. While the Contest is in progress, there will be no conferring between contestants and any spectator, except under the direct supervision of the group leader or the judging contest representative. Failure to abide by these rules may result in the disqualification of the contestant. 4. SCORING AND FINAL PLACING: a. Scores will be based upon the placing classes and questions classes. Fifty (50) points shall constitute a perfect score in placing the animals. Twenty-five (25) points shall constitute a perfect score in questions classes. b. Any ties in the tabulation of the standings will be broken by scores on the questions classes. c. Once awards are announced and presented, there will be no changes. 5. RESULTS AND AWARDS: a. Results will be announced in the Swine Arena at the conclusion of the Contest after tabulation is completed. b. Rosettes will be awarded to first through third place teams and first through sixth place individuals of the Contest. c. Holly Berri Farm, Joshua, Texas , will award a buckle to the Overall High Individual of the Contest. d. Holly Berri Farm, Joshua, Texas , will present an award to each team member of the Overall High Team of the Contest.
