SPECIAL RULES The Junior Ag Robotics Challenge is a challenge-based robotics contest. Some challenges will be released prior to the contest, and some will be revealed the day of the Contest. As such, teams will be required to build and program their robot prior to the Contest for the known challenges. The known challenges and full game rules will be posted at this link: https://texas4-h.tamu.edu/projects/robotics/. On the day of the Contest, additional “unknown” challenges will be revealed, and teams will be given time to further build and program to account for the new challenges. All entries in this Junior Ag Robotics Challenge will be subject to the General Rules and Regulations and Special Rules of the Junior Livestock Show Department published in this 2025 Premium List and in addition, the following Special Rules. 1. Eligibility. Each County Extension Agent or Agricultural Science Teacher may enter four (4) teams in each Age Division. Entries in this division are limited to Texas 4-H and FFA members. Any contestant violating any rule will be disqualified from the Contest along with his or her team. Teams must consist of members from the same county or chapter. Three (3) to four (4) students will constitute a team in this Contest. Teams may not include members from different age divisions. Team members may only compete on one (1) team. 2. Entry Applications. Entry applications may be obtained by contacting the Southwestern Exposition and Livestock Show, PO Box 150, Fort Worth, Texas 76101-0150, 817-877-2400, or on our website fwssr.com. 3. Entry Limitation. Due to space limitations, only the first forty (40) Junior teams and the first forty (40) Senior teams will be accepted; there will NOT be a waiting list . 4. Age Divisions (as of January 1, 2025). Junior: At least eight (8) years old and in the third grade, but no more than eighth grade. Senior: Must be in at least the ninth grade, but not older than nineteen (19) years old and in the twelfth grade. 5. Contest Format/Rules of Play. a. Teams must pre-build and program a robot prior to the competition. b. Teams will report to the designated location for check-in and submit their robot and additional pieces/equipment for inspection. c. Each team will be directed to a team pit (one (1) 6’ or 8’ table and chairs). Each pit will have access to electricity to power laptops and robot batteries. d. An Orientation will be provided for all participants where Superintendents will review the challenges, rules and scoring. e. The design of the game and designated number of challenges will be released in advance of the Contest. There will be 3-4 additional “unknown” challenges revealed the day of the Contest during the Orientation. f. Each team will have 1.5 hours for additional designing, building, programming and testing of their robot. g. Teams will practice and compete on the same game table. h. If time permits, teams are allowed to make alterations to their robot design and/or program between matches. i. Teams must report immediately to the playing field when called. j. The robot must perform challenges autonomously. k. Only registered contestants and contest officials will be allowed in the Robot Challenge pit areas. l. Teams that experience equipment malfunction(s) may not replace the equipment with supplies outside the contest area (from leaders, volunteers, CEA, AST or contest officials). Instead, team members must work together and be creative in completing preparations without the malfunctioning equipment or visit with other teams to borrow the needed part.
